China News Service, July 20. According to the Iranian National News Agency (IRNA), the spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Said Khatibzad held talks on the resumption of the Iran nuclear agreement at a regular press conference held on the Internet. Said that due to the US approach, the process of restarting the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue has been postponed, and the next round of talks will have to wait for the establishment of a new Iranian government before holding it.

He emphasized that the talks will continue in a normal manner and Iran’s overall policy will not change.

What the government implements is the decision of the system. The important thing is to implement the high-level decisions of the system and defend the interests of the Iranian people.

Khatibzad emphasized that Iran has always insisted that when the U.S. government resumes fulfilling its obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Iran nuclear agreement, and after Iran’s verification, Iran will resume fulfilling its obligations.

Regarding the exchange of detainees with the United States and Britain, Khatibzad said that in addition to the talks on the Iranian nuclear agreement in Vienna, Iran also conducted dialogues with the United States and the United Kingdom on the humanitarian issue of exchanges of detainees through intermediaries. The talks on the Iranian nuclear agreement were held separately and in parallel.

He said that seeking the release of Iranian citizens imprisoned by the United States and some European countries under false pretexts has always been the top priority of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Khatibzad also said that the US State Department’s recent statement on the matter was surprising. What the United States is doing is "linking humanitarian issues with political goals."

He said that a consensus has been reached in the dialogue on the exchange of detainees, and implementation of the consensus requires some preparatory work. All parties return to their respective capitals to complete the preparatory work.

When Iran announced that the next (seventh) round of talks on the Iranian nuclear agreement would be held after the establishment of the new government, the United States decided to postpone the issue of the exchange of detainees until after the establishment of the next Iranian government. The U.S. approach was wrong. .

He added that if the United States and the United Kingdom fulfill their obligations under the consensus today, Iran can exchange detainees today.
