Cap-Haitien prepares to host the funeral of President Jovenel Moïse

A new Prime Minister took office Tuesday, July 20 in Haiti.

Ariel Henry, who had been appointed by President Jovenel Moïse just before the latter's assassination, therefore replaces Claude Joseph, under pressure from the international community.

He called for “ 

national union

 ” to “

end this race towards the abyss 

” of his country.

The national funeral of Jovenel Moïse will be held Friday in Cap-Haitien, but various events around these funerals are organized from this Wednesday in this large city in the north of Haiti, department of birth of the head of state.

From this Wednesday, radio stations are invited to play only appropriate music.

The sale of alcohol is prohibited, nightclubs closed and condolence registers are open in 19 town halls in this department in northern Haiti.

Thursday, a so-called patriotic mass will be sung in the cathedral of Cap-Haitien, followed by a march and a vigil.

This day, like that of Friday, has been declared a holiday.

For the time being, the road services are active.

Each inhabitant is invited to clean or even repaint the facade of their house.

The hotels are already full.

The town hall specifies that diplomats, members of the outgoing government and friends of the president have already arrived, some from abroad.

There will be condolence registers in the 19 town halls ...

On Friday, the state funeral will be held a few kilometers from the city center, in a private residence of the Moïse family, where the president's father is buried.

His widow, Martine Moïse, is already there.

She has been involved in organizing the funeral since returning from Florida, where she was being treated for her injuries.

In a press release, she underlined that " 

the presidential family wishes to bear the expenses linked to the funeral at its own expense

 " and refuse any " 

financial support from the public treasury 

".
