What we reproach him

The man is suspected of having shot dead this Sunday near Saint-Tropez a young 32-year-old woman, mother of a ten-year-old girl, with whom he had a brief relationship.

The use of CCTV recordings of the residence where this murder took place and the analysis of the victim's mobile phone made it possible to identify the suspect, on the run to the Alpes-Maritimes and his family home in Gréolières.

Investigators came to his home on Sunday to interview him.

He then took refuge in his property and fired on a gendarme, without injuring him.

This man is actively wanted for a homicide on this young woman and an attempted homicide on a gendarme.

The survey is led by the Marseille research section.

What we know about him

The gendarmerie has issued a call for witnesses which gives some information about him.

It is Marc Floris, a tall individual of 1.75 meters, Caucasian type with brown hair.

Aged 33 and born in Nice, he was not known to the police until this day.

He is a child from the village of Gréolières.

An only son according to the testimony of a resident.

He is also the son of a hunter, initiated into this practice when he was young.

He is an employee of a public works company on the Côte d'Azur.

Why the intervention takes time

Marc Floris is said to have taken refuge in the mountains surrounding the family property, five or six kilometers from the center of the village.

Places that he "knows perfectly", with nearly "90 caves", "rivers and woods" explained the colonel of the group who heads the operation.

"The search perimeter is important, in a difficult environment, with complicated terrain", expressed Bernard Gonzales, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, who hopes that the individual "surrenders and lays down his arms".

The search area is "several tens of square kilometers," added the colonel, who did not give details of his weaponry or exclude the hypothesis that he escaped from the device, although this seems unlikely.

What are the means deployed?

200 gendarmes and elite GIGN forces dispatched from the Paris region, supported by four army and gendarmerie helicopters, were deployed in the area.

"There is no confinement of the town", but "precautionary and security measures" for homes close to that of the suspect, said the prefect.
