October 17, 2018 The US prison in Guantanamo, in Cuba, which President Barack Obama promised to close in 2009, will remain open "for at least another 25 years". This was stated by John Ring, head of the facility where terrorists are detained and where the accused for the attack on the Twin Towers are located.

Last January, President Donald Trump canceled Obama's promise with an executive order. Ring, during the periodic visit organized for journalists by the US military, said that he had received the Pentagon's order that Guantanamo must remain open. Last December a UN expert, Nils Melzer, said that torture in Guantanamo continued, at least against one detainee, Ammar al-Baluchi, suspected of the 9/11 attacks.
