What information is available about the health status of the Egyptian artist, Yasmine Abdel Aziz?

Is there a medical error or what happened from the complications that are not the fault of the doctor?

How do doctors view the details of the issue?

The answers are in this report.

Yesterday, Sunday, the official Middle East News Agency in Egypt reported that Yasmine Abdel Aziz had entered intensive care, after she fell ill after undergoing an operation.

The agency quoted artist Ahmed Al-Awadi as asking his fans to "pray for his wife, artist Yasmine Abdel Aziz, after she underwent surgery."

Al-Awadi wrote on his Facebook page, "Please pray in the unseen for my wife and my beloved Yasmine.. She is in operations and needs your prayers. Oh God, you are the healer and the healthy with your ability to do everything, may God lift her affliction and epidemic, and heal her."

The artist, Wael Abdel Aziz, also asked the media not to publish any statements regarding his sister's health condition unless it was attributed to her family.

Later, the Middle East Agency broadcast, in exclusive statements, Al-Awadi's confirmation of the stability of his wife's health condition, denying the validity of what was reported about the instability of her condition during the past few hours.

Yasmine Abdel Aziz had a surgery on Saturday in a private hospital, according to the Middle East News Agency.

What happened with Yasmine Abdel Aziz?

Until now, there are no official data from the artist’s family or the treating doctors, but what was reported by Egyptian and international media can be summarized that the artist was suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome, and then entered the hospital for a surgical procedure, but the situation developed and complications occurred and she was poisoned the blood.

What is PCOS?

Also known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), it is a common hormonal disorder among women of childbearing age.

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome may have problems with the regularity or length of their menstrual cycles or increased levels of male hormones (androgens).

The ovaries may produce numerous collections of small fluid sacs (follicles) and fail to regularly produce eggs.

That's according to MayoClinic.

There are 3 main characteristics of PCOS, which are:

  • Irregular menstruation.

  • An increase in male hormones (androgens), which may cause symptoms such as increased growth of body hair or facial hair.

  • Polycystic ovaries, where the ovaries become enlarged and there are fluid-filled vacuoles called follicles surrounding the eggs.

The cavities are up to 8 millimeters in size.

And often you cannot release an egg, which means that ovulation does not occur.

Symptoms:

  • Irregular periods, according to the UK's National Health Service.

  • Menopause.

  • difficulty getting pregnant

  • Excessive hair growth (hirsutism), usually on the face, chest, back or buttocks.

  • overweight.

  • Weakness of hair or hair loss from the head.

  • oily skin.

  • acne.

PCOS is associated with an increased risk of developing certain health problems later, such as type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol.

What causes PCOS?

The causes are unknown, but it is believed that it is related to genetics, and also to the presence of abnormal levels of hormones in the body, including high levels of insulin, which contributes to the increased production and activity of hormones such as the male hormone "testosterone".

Being overweight or obese increases the amount of insulin your body produces.

treatment

There is no cure for polycystic ovaries, but the symptoms can be treated.

If a woman with PCOS is overweight, losing weight and following a healthy, balanced diet may improve some symptoms.

There are medications to treat symptoms such as excessive hair growth, irregular periods and fertility problems.

A simple surgery called laparoscopic ovarian drilling with heat or a laser can also be used to destroy tissue in the ovaries that produces androgens.

I pray for the artist, Yasmine Abdel Aziz, for a speedy recovery 🙏🏻 In the event of any medical error, I ask those responsible to be held accountable, because these medical errors have been repeated a lot recently and this is not permissible..# Yasmine_Abdulaziz

Blood poisoning

Sepsis (also known as sepsis) is a life-threatening complication of infection that occurs when the body's immune system reacts severely to infection, leading to damage to the body itself.

Sepsis can be caused by problems spreading from other parts of the body, such as chest infections, urinary tract infections, and cuts and bites.

What is the difference between sepsis and septicemia?

In septicemia, the bacteria invade the bloodstream, while sepsis may affect the body's organs without septicemia.

stages of infection

  • Sepsis: After infection, symptoms such as fever, rapid heartbeat and rapid breathing appear.

  • Severe sepsis: In which the infection begins to affect the functioning of the body's organs.

  • Septic shock: A sharp drop in blood pressure results in the body's organs not getting the oxygen they need in the blood.

The death rate for people with septicemia increases every hour by between 7% and 8%.

And if the patient is not transferred to intensive care immediately, all of his organs may stop performing their functions, leading to his death.

Is there a medical error?

The disease of the Egyptian artist sparked widespread controversy in the medical community, whether what Abdel Aziz was exposed to was a medical error due to negligence, or among the possible complications as a result of the surgery, according to Sanad Agency in Al Jazeera Network.

A number of doctors were keen to explain the condition of Yasmine Abdel Aziz, while others believed that patients' secrets should not be disclosed publicly through social media platforms.

We start with a member of the Medical Syndicate in Egypt, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Zayat, who said that “in the beginning, a distinction must be made between medical negligence and the error that may occur, and the latter means that the doctor worked in his specialty and obtained scientific certificates that qualify him to perform a surgical operation or treat a diseased condition, and that it is possible to The occurrence of some complications of this pathological condition during treatment,” according to what a report in Russia Today quoted Egyptian media outlets as saying.

Al-Zayat added, "Medical negligence means that the doctor may not be a specialist or work in an unqualified place, or he cannot deal with such cases, and there is a big difference between medical negligence and the error that may occur."

He stressed that "in the event that it is proven that what happened with the artist, Yasmine Abdel Aziz, is a medical error, the person concerned will be held accountable in all ways, whether through the law in the Public Prosecution, or through the union," stressing that "the account includes all doctors, even if his name is great in the field, Accounting begins with varying degrees of punishment, from censure to permanent removal from the union and suspension from work.

He explained, "In the event of real medical negligence, and making sure that the treating doctor is not a specialist, and the hospital is not qualified, the laws hold the doctor accountable in the public law or in the Doctors Syndicate," noting that the Syndicate had already submitted the Medical Liability Law to the House of Representatives 5 years ago, and this law is in force in many Arab countries.

Medical complications

For his part, Dr. Yasser Othman said on his Facebook page that the definition of medical complications is all the problems that can occur after surgical intervention in different proportions to the possibility of their occurrence, and may reach death, and the patient signs the possibility of their occurrence, and this is done routinely in all health centers in the United States and Europe.

"Personally, I have endorsed the possibility of death occurring during a minor medical procedure in an outpatient clinic in a Munich hospital," he added.

"So how are doctors evaluated as long as any procedure can cause complications?"

The answer is to measure the follow-up of the incidence of this problem with the doctor. If, for example, the percentage is 1% of colon injury during surgery in the documented scientific references, then its occurrence by 3% calls for review by the administrative director of the hospital and referral for investigation or suspension from work, to determine the reasons for the increase in the percentage before It requires any legal accountability, and the administration is ready to respond to any inquiry or legal claim.

Dr. Othman adds, "As for the definition of medical negligence, it is the occurrence of a problem that is not listed in the reference books, such as removing the opposite kidney or changing the reverse joint, which is a mistake that only occurs by negligence, or performing the surgery in a medical facility that is not qualified to receive surgeries, or performing the surgery by an unqualified doctor. For surgery, such as having a general surgeon perform urological surgery.”

Medical negligence also includes "delays in responding when problems occur, delaying intervention, for example, due to the absence of a doctor or delaying decision-making."

According to Dr. Othman, “What happened in the case of the famous artist, according to the available information, is a problem that occurred in a hospital qualified to perform these surgeries by a doctor qualified to perform such surgeries, and it is a problem mentioned as a possibility of occurrence in simple proportions after this type of intervention, and direct intervention took place after the occurrence of the problem. So it is one of the possible medical complications that the patient signs on the possibility of their occurrence before surgery, even if it is a small percentage.”
