The verdict shows that the 18-year-old had contact with the child during the spring, mainly via social media.

Their contact has not been of a sexual nature, but the 18-year-old has stated during questioning that he has long fantasized about having sex with the child.

On May 2 this year, he picked up the child in a car and then drove around to a number of secluded places where he planned to carry out the abuse.

However, he did not dare to do so.

At about the same time as the child states that he wants to go home, they are stopped by a police patrol and the 18-year-old is arrested.

Have sought help

The 18-year-old does not appear in the police register since before but has sought help from psychiatry for his unwanted thoughts about sex with children.

There has been no violence in connection with the abduction of the child, but Ångermanland District Court finds that it was in principle impossible for the child to say no to the 18-year-old.

The child has also not been able to interrupt the journey and get home on his own and the court therefore believes that the 18-year-old has committed kidnapping.

Milder classification

The prosecutor had demanded that the man also be convicted of the crime "preparation for rape of a child".

But here the court believes that the evidence is not enough but chooses to convict the 18-year-old for "contact to meet a child for sexual purposes".

Prison and damages

The minimum sentence for kidnapping is four years' imprisonment and the court believes that the penalty for the man's crime is imprisonment for four years and six months. However, due to his age, the fact that he was previously unpunished and that he voluntarily told about his attraction to children, he is now sentenced to two years and six months in prison. He must also pay SEK 25,000 in damages to the child.
