Mistrust against sanitary measures is growing and in some places even takes a violent turn.

The marquee hosting the Covid-19 vaccination center in the town of Urrugne in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques was the subject of an arson overnight from Saturday to Sunday, announced the Bayonne prosecutor.

On his Twitter account, the public prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier said on Sunday that he had "seized the Bayonne judicial police service with an investigation of flagrance for willful destruction by fire".

For the mayor of Urrugne, Philippe Aramendi, the voluntary nature of the fire is beyond doubt.

“I was called at 3 am and it was found that flammable product had been spilled around the marquee.

Fortunately, the firefighters quickly contained the flames and the marquee was only partially destroyed, ”he explained.

" This is unacceptable !

"

The mayor (abertzale / left “patriot”) of the Basque municipality said he was “filled with a feeling of spite and especially anger”. "It may be too early to know if we are dealing with anti-vaccines but if so, it is saddening," he added. “Vaccination is not unanimous, but from there to arriving at this kind of facts, it is unacceptable! ". According to Philippe Aramendi, the town hopes to resume the normal course of its vaccination campaign from Wednesday.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Jean Castex went to the Basque Country, Bayonne and Anglet, in particular to visit a vaccination center and discuss with the prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques the implementation of the health pass in this department, where the incidence rate is above the alert threshold.

But, the context is particularly tense for the government.

On Saturday, tens of thousands of people demonstrated across France to challenge the vaccination and criticize the health pass.
