The UFO has landed: it now shines black, red and white on the wasteland at Brusselser Platz, where suddenly a completely different life returns in the evening.

Behind the site fence there is a large open area with a solid floor, where you can talk a few more bars about what you have just seen with drinks from the bar.

Inside, behind the red-black entrance: a good 100 boxes for two spectators each in a semicircle, on the three floors you have a sensational view of the stage, but also of other spectators - which matched Tarek Al-Wazir's (green) statement , Man, this social being, wants to look each other in the eye while enjoying culture.

Until well into October, the Kaiserlei, right on the city limits of Frankfurt in the Offenbach area, will be played.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Offenbach MP was the highest-ranking among the numerous politicians who attended the opening.

After all, the “summer building” is the largest of the many cultural summer and “outdoors” projects that are currently running.

There was 500,000 euros from the ten million euro state fund "Ins Freie" for culture in new places in the open air and in new combinations of operators; there was also funding from the Performing Arts Fund from funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the urban Frankfurt cultural summer.

The open-air theater in scaffolding, which the Frankfurt Lab and its sponsors operate with all kinds of partners, is the responsibility of the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, which also oversees the Frankfurt cultural summer.

Program contributions are supported by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Mousonturm director Matthias Pees estimates the total volume of the project at two to two and a half million euros.

Give the "Struwwelpeter" a stage

The comparisons were not chosen small on the opening evening either, the “summer building” has already been compared with Shakespeare's Globe Theater or the Colosseum. The scaffolding designed by the architects from raumlaborberlin was not that big after all, but it can currently accommodate up to 350 spectators. Thanks to the white sails, the noise of the street can hardly be heard, and once the performance has started, the air traffic over the stage sky is forgotten. The view from the parquet is also fantastic: Above the sky, all around the black-clad boxes with red triangular sails, a subtle color spectacle.

The Ensemble Modern and the Volksbühne am Großer Hirschgraben also offered a spectacle at the opening of the building. The "Struwwelpeter", in a music-theatrical new composition by the three ensemble members Uwe Dierksen, Hermann Kretzschmar and Christian Hommel, opened the Cantate-Saal, the new home of the Volksbühne, at the end of January 2020 - the lockdown came a short time later. Now Sabine Fischmann and Michael Quast give the monkey sugar, show the tragic, grim-threatening aspect of the "funny stories" by Heinrich Hoffmann from Frankfurt, sometimes with a little overly loud commitment. Like so many artists and event teams at the moment, the ensemble has played in double shifts. The mixture of tradition and modernity suited an opening with speeches, red ribbon and scissors for a building that wants to be dedicated to the contemporary. With the ten-hour production “Dionysus City” from July 31st, what the “summer building” promises will be redeemed: “Frankfurt Dionysia in Offenbach”.
