Hot summer weather in combination with swimming pools and swimming schools being closed during the pandemic can be devastating when it comes to the risk of drowning incidents according to the lifesaving society.

- Swimming is a fresh product and many believe that they can swim more than they can actually handle, says Anders Nilsson who is chairman of the Swedish Lifesaving Society in Dalarna.

Children drown silently

According to Nilsson, it is mainly small children who lack swimming skills.

-

Keeping track of your children at the beach is very important.

You should definitely not look at your mobile phone, read a book or walk away from the children.

Children do not scream when they drown, it just becomes completely silent and then it can be really dangerous.

Accidents during boat trips and alcohol

- If you are going out by boat, canoe or similar, a life jacket is something to take with you.

Many people like to drink alcohol at sea, especially when fishing and this is something that should always be avoided.

Alcohol impairs reflexes and it is not uncommon for people to fall into the water when intoxicated and then be found drowned.
