New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- Olympic Games: first home at the Olympic Village -

Five days before the opening of the Olympics (23 July-8 August), the organizers detected two infected athletes in the Olympic Village, after announcing the very first positive case - of a member of the management - the day before. in this immense residence, emblematic of the Games.

These three contaminations concern "the same country and the same sport", revealed Sunday a spokesperson for the organizing committee, without further details.

- Boris Johnson contact case -

Contact case, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is forced to isolate himself on the eve of the lifting of restrictions linked to the pandemic on Monday, renamed "Freedom Day".

Mr Johnson as well as Finance Minister Rishi Sunak "have been contacted by the public health service because they have been in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid", explained a spokesperson for Downing Street.

The Minister of Health, Sajid Javid, announced on Saturday that he had tested positive for Covid-19.

- France imposes tests of less than 24 hours -

France imposed Covid-19 tests of less than 24 hours from midnight on Saturday on unvaccinated travelers from the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and the Netherlands.

France has also extended its list of "red" countries to Tunisia, Mozambique, Cuba and Indonesia.

- Senegal: suspension of inter-city trips by bus -

The national bus company in Senegal has announced that it is interrupting its intercity links due to the recent resurgence of Covid-19 in the country.

All buses providing connections between cities in Senegal will stop running from Sunday, Dakar operator Dem Dikk said in a statement, adding without further details having received "alarming information" on Saturday evening.

- Thailand: demonstrations against the management of the pandemic -

Thai police deployed water cannons in Bangkok against demonstrators, who defied restrictive measures to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, whose management of the pandemic they notably denounced, and to mark the first anniversary of the pro-democracy movement.

The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 608,898 deaths, followed by Brazil (541,266 dead), India (413,609), Mexico (236,240) and Peru (195,047) .

The WHO estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the results of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
