With the start of the holidays in Hesse, the number of passengers at Frankfurt Airport will increase over the weekend.

As a spokesman for the airport operator Fraport announced, an increase to 115,000 to 120,000 passengers is to be expected on both Saturday and Sunday.

The company speaks of around 1000 flight movements per day.

“We are assuming that the numbers will remain at this level over the coming weekends, as the summer holidays also begin in other federal states,” added the spokesman.

On the past weekends, however, the number of passengers a day was still around 100,000, he said.

Operations in Frankfurt currently account for around 50 percent of the holiday traffic in the pre-Corona year 2019. At that time, 230,000 to 240,000 passengers flew daily on weekends.

At least two hours before departure

In view of the expected large crowd, there could be waiting times at the weekend, according to Fraport.

Passengers should therefore bring time with them because controls and clearance are time-consuming.

“This can affect departing passengers at check-in, security checks or other process points in the terminal.

Baggage claim may be delayed for incoming flights ”.

As the spokesman said, it happens again and again that passengers do not have all of their travel documents with them.

Departing passengers are therefore asked to find out about the current status of their flight in good time and to be in the terminal area at least two hours before departure.
