July 17, 2021 - British Health Minister Sajid Javid tested positive for Covid-19 and has mild symptoms.

He made it known himself in a tweet. "I am positive, I am waiting for the result of the molecular swab, but fortunately I am vaccinated and the symptoms are mild," wrote Javid, appealing to all those who have not yet done so in the UK to get vaccinated.

Javid took up the post of health minister last month following the resignation of Matt Hancock following a violation of social distancing rules. Hancock contracted Covid-19 last year. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also fell ill and was hospitalized for several days in intensive care in April 2020.

This morning, the minister announced the government's plan for the winter to offer the flu vaccine to over 35 million people starting in September. This is the largest flu campaign ever launched in the country and will be structured like the one against Covid-19. For the first time, children between the ages of 15 and 16 will also be able to request the vaccine. Nasal spray vaccination will be made available to children aged two and three and students under the age of 15. "The flu can be a serious disease and we want to immunize a record number of people," said Javid. The government's goal for 2021 is to double last winter's supplies.
