Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was sworn in for a new seven-year term, nearly two months after his re-election, and had won the presidential elections that took place on May 26 with 95 percent of the vote.

Bashar al-Assad was sworn in before the president and members of the People's Assembly and in the presence of political, party, religious, media, scientific, cultural, sports, artistic and social figures.

Bashar al-Assad addressed a speech to the Syrian people, in which he said: "I repeat my call to everyone who deceived him and bet on the fall of the homeland and on the collapse of the state to return to the bosom of the homeland because the stakes have fallen and the homeland remains."
