While efforts are being made to revive the Iranian nuclear agreement, from which the United States withdrew in 2018, reactions vary between supporters and opponents of this trend, each with its own point of view and pretexts.

Among the vehement opponents of the United States' pursuit of a return to the agreement is American political analyst Dr. Majid Rafizadeh, a Harvard-educated Iranian-American scholar who is president of the American International Middle East Council.

Storm intensifying

Rafiqzadeh says in a report published by the American Gatestone Institute that “it is known that the former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, warned against appeasing the aggressor, saying: Any human being hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will not rush to eat it.

Everyone hopes that the storm will pass before it is time to devour them, but I fear - in general - that the storm will not pass.

Churchill stated this when many political leaders in both Britain and France were pinning their hopes on appeasing Hitler to avoid war.

Rafiqzadeh adds that history has proven time and time again that appeasing a rogue state only empowers it and increases its boldness. However, it seems that the administration of US President Joe Biden and the European Union are determined to continue this dangerous policy of appeasement in the face of a regime chanting “Death to America” and plotting to uproot the United States. From the Middle East, committed to the eradication of Israel, and according to the US State Department, it is one of only four state sponsors of terrorism, and one of the most prominent violators of human rights.

Cancellation of penalties

On the second of this month, a US executive order canceled the sanctions imposed on three Iranians, whom the previous US administration had imposed on them for their involvement in promoting Iran's ballistic missile program.

The European Union is also moving forward to revive the nuclear agreement and abolish sanctions imposed on the mullahs, even after the Iranian regime chose a hard-line person to be the country's president.

Rafiqzadeh said that the European Union's high representative for foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell, announced that there is an agreement "very soon", and that he hopes that the outcome of the Iranian elections will not be the last obstacle that will destroy the negotiation process.

In addition, the Biden administration on June 10 canceled the sanctions imposed on three former officials in the Iranian government and two Iranian companies on the grounds of their involvement in the oil sector in Iran.

The Biden administration also rescinded the designation of the Houthi proxy group for Iran, and ignored Iran's dispatch of a destroyer and intelligence-gathering support ship to Venezuela.

Zadeh added that Borrell said on June 20 that lifting sanctions against the Iranian government would bring peace.

"Has the Biden administration and the European Union really forgotten the disastrous outcome of appeasing the mullahs in 2015, when it reached an agreement with the Iranian government to abolish sanctions against the Islamic Republic?" Zadeh asked.

Zadeh explains that former US President Barack Obama said at the time that he was "confident" that the agreement "will meet the national security needs of the United States and our allies."

Throughout this time, his administration not only initiated and expanded policies of appeasement, but also made unprecedented concessions in an effort to dissuade the mullahs, the rulers of Iran, from their internal and external aggression.

Rafiqzadeh added that after the abolition of sanctions against the mullahs, instead of these appeasements achieving peace and curbing Iran's evil actions at home and abroad, the mullahs were given global legitimacy. and Iranian terrorist groups.

Iran has used the revenue stream to expand its influence across the region, particularly in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Rafiqzadeh concluded his report by saying that the United States and the European Union should stop feeding the crocodile and end the policy of appeasing the mullahs of Iran. The current strategy is no different from enriching Nazi Germany during World War II or Soviet Russia during the Cold War.

For a rogue state, concessions mean weakness, and the more the United States and the European Union appease the mullahs, the more aggressive they become.

• The abolition of sanctions resulted in billions of dollars in revenues for the Iranian military establishment, and for the Iranian militias and terrorist groups.

Iran has used the revenue stream to expand its influence.

• On the second of this month, the US sanctions imposed on three Iranians were canceled. The previous US administration had imposed sanctions on them for their involvement in promoting Iran's ballistic missile program.

The European Union is also pressing ahead with the revival of the nuclear deal and the abolition of sanctions against the mullahs.
