Xinhua News Agency, Taipei, July 16 (Reporters Jiang Tingting and Chen Jianxing) Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia in Taiwan has increased, insurance policies such as epidemic prevention and vaccine insurance have continued to sell well.

The latest statistics from the financial regulatory agency of the Taiwan authorities show that as of July 14, the number of relevant insurance policies had reached 9.46 million, and the premium income was 6.214 billion yuan (NTD, the same below), an increase of 4.42 million and 3.628 billion from the end of May. The number of related claims has also risen sharply, with an amount exceeding 1.2 billion yuan.

It is reported that the anti-epidemic insurance policy includes a single insurance premium, treatment costs, and isolation compensation costs for the confirmed patients, while the vaccine insurance mainly covers the compensation costs for adverse reactions after vaccination.

Based on the total population of Taiwan, the coverage rate of epidemic prevention and vaccine insurance has exceeded 40%.

Since May, as the number of confirmed cases and the number of people in isolation has risen sharply, the number and amount of claims for the two types of insurance have soared.

As of July 14, 16,114 claims have been filed, with a claim amount of 1.251 billion yuan.

As the number of vaccinated people increases, sales of vaccine insurance policies are also accelerating.

As of July 14, 1.57 million cases had been insured, with premium income of 455 million yuan. In two weeks, nearly 560,000 cases and 162 million yuan had been sold. At present, 30 claims have been settled with an amount of over 1 million yuan.

It is reported that all insurance policies related to epidemic prevention can only apply for claims after being discharged from hospital or quarantine. Therefore, the number and amount of claims will lag behind and should continue to increase in the future.
