More and more dead are found in the flood-hit North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate in southwestern Germany and many are still missing.

Disruptions in the mobile network and fixed telephony that do not work mean that many have not been able to be reached or contact the rescue service.

- It has been very difficult for the rescue workers due to the rushing water.

They have not been able to use boats to rescue people who have then moved up on their rooftops.

The water has also formed lakes or rivers around the houses, which has led to many being isolated, says SVT's reporter Elin Jönsson, who among other things visited the hard-hit community Schuld.

She describes how the affected area resembles a war scene with only gruel left.

And where the water rushes forward, it brings with it property from affected households.

- You see mattresses lying up in the trees.

The water must have gone straight through the houses and taken things from there.

I have seen cutlery, kitchen dolls and plates scattered.

It is a very strange sight to see this well-ordered western Germany in bare rubble.
