• Analysis Queen Letizia does not spare King Felipe carantoñas despite his reputation for being cold

  • Arrangements Queen Letizia gets tired of the heel: this is how she tunes her brand shoes

In democratic societies that are increasingly concerned with transparency like ours, a principle that should govern the actions of every public figure is not to do anything that cannot be explained. In the case of Queen Letizia, it was disconcerting that she was still not vaccinated against Covid. The lack of explanations, of a reassuring message and, consequently, the dissemination in networks of all kinds of rumors, crazy theories and public misunderstanding, turned the matter into an image problem for the Crown.

But, finally, Doña Letizia has been vaccinated this Friday at the WiZink Center in Madrid -the same place that corresponded to the King weeks ago-. From the Palacio de La Zarzuela they clarified to LOC hours before that there was no problem, that everything was within the deadlines and mechanisms of the procedures in force. And they attributed the delay simply to the need to coordinate dates and schedules. The request for an appointment for immunization was a personal decision that affects the private sphere of the consort.

The biggest surprise was knowing that everything had been programmed so that his puncture coincided with that of his first-born, the Princess of Asturias. Doña Leonor -who will not be 16 until October- has had to be vaccinated following the official regulations of the Community for minors of this age who are going to study outside of Spain. She starts Baccalaureate in Wales in September. Just a few hours ago, she was immunized at the International Vaccination Center on Montesa Street, also in the capital.

Doña Letizia was born on September 15, 1972. She is 48 years old. The Community of Madrid began vaccinating people under 49 against Covid on June 9. And the vast majority of Madrilenians over 45 have already taken at least the first dose. At the beginning of this week, only 5.6% of citizens in the range between 45 and 49 remained without immunization, a negligible percentage in which the Queen was. The Casa del Rey made public the moment in which he was vaccinated, as happened in his day with Doña Sofía and more recently with Felipe VI.

The reasons why the consort continued to this day in such a strange situation can be very varied. The most unlikely was that Doña Letizia was a denier and did not believe in the benefit of vaccines. Last Monday, one of her well-known friends, journalist Sonsoles Ónega, was forced to confront this theory on her program Ya es noon on Telecinco. "The Queen is going to be vaccinated for sure. We will see, I have no doubt. She is a faithful defender of science, hence she trusts 100% in the vaccine. You just have to listen to her speeches."

Another possible reason would be that Doña Letizia had passed the coronavirus and that, therefore, the Zarzuela medical team would have advised her to wait six months after overcoming the disease, a period recommended in different WHO reports as the most appropriate before the application of the booster against the virus.

Such an assumption raises questions. First, why would Zarzuela silence an illness of the Queen if it had occurred? And, later, in this gambling, the dates dance. The last time that Doña Letizia was out of the public spotlight for more than 10 days was at Christmas. Since his participation in the solemn ceremony of the Military Easter, on January 6, more than half a year has passed. And in all this time, the longest period without going to a public event occurred at Easter: between Monday, March 29, when he was with Don Felipe in Fuendetodos on the occasion of the 275th anniversary of Goya's birth, and on Wednesday 7 April, the day he resumed his official agenda with a work meeting at the Fundación Mutua Madrileña. In between, just eight days, insufficient to keep the mandatory quarantine.Another thing is if she had overcome the Covid without finding out, asymptomatic, and had known recently through a serological test. In that case, the question would once again be what would be wrong with Zarzuela reporting it openly.

The experts consulted by LOC add other possible causes in this delay in vaccination.

Like that Doña Letizia suffered from some type of allergy that would have led her to make such a decision.

In any case, the Kings have not wanted to have an active role in the campaign.

And thus, the fact that Don Felipe was immunized without light or stenographers on May 29 at the WiZink Center in Madrid was criticized.

To make matters worse, someone managed to take a very poor quality photograph that ended up being leaked to a television program, which contributed to blur a fact that could have served as an example for everyone.

Equally questionable is that the Government did not consider it necessary at the time for the Head of State and other authorities such as the president himself to be vaccinated in a preferential way.

Quite the opposite of what happened in most European monarchies at the beginning of the year when doses of the vaccines began to be administered.

The first queen vaccinated in Europe was Margaret of Denmark, at Christmas time.

He was immediately followed by the sovereigns of Liechtenstein, Hans Adam and his wife Maria.

Then it would go to the kings of Sweden, Elizabeth of England and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on April 9.

That same month, the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg, Enrique and Maria Teresa, were vaccinated.

And, in May, Guillermo de Holanda received the first dose of the vaccine.

With Doña Letizia already immunized, only two other consorts remain in the Old Continent, Máxima from Holland and Charlène from Monaco, of whom nothing is yet known about their vaccinations.
