- All personnel are better trained in how to interpret weather data and how to calculate and predict how a fire spreads, says Andreas Hoff, Rescue Manager on standby The Rescue Service Västernorrland.

Focus on weather data

The rescue service in Höga Kusten-Ådalen considers itself well prepared for possible forest fires this summer.

In line with rising temperatures in the county, the risk of forest and land fires also increases.

- This year, the focus is on keeping track of weather data and checking the equipment and so on.

For example, we continuously check how dry it is in the ground, says Andreas Hoff, Rescue Manager Höga Kusten-Ådalen.

Various collaborations and contacts

In addition to collaborations with various authorities such as MSB, the county administrative board and the local aviation clubs, the rescue service also has constant contact with the forest companies.

- They have routines for when to set up their forest machines.

At certain fire risk values, they only drive at night when the humidity is higher and in even more extreme weather they stand completely and do not drive when they do not want to cause fires, says Andreas Hoff.

New ways of working work

Andreas believes that the new working methods have ensured that it has been relatively calm during the summer of 2021.

- We have done well in the county this summer.

We have had a number of minor forest and land fires, but we have been able to deal with them relatively quickly, he says.
