The fire in Oregon is one of several fires currently raging in the United States.

In less than a week, the forest fire covers more than 90,000 hectares and about 2,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Now firefighters and over 900 people from different parts of the state are working full time to try to stop the fire, which is still not limited, reports The Oregonian.

"It's already one of the ten worst fires in Oregon's modern history," Jim Gersbach of the state Forest Service told TT.

According to the local news channel KGW News, the name of the fire "Bootleg fire" comes from a water source with the same name in the immediate area.

Dry and heat

Oregon, located on the west coast between California and Nevada in the south, Washington in the north and Idaho in the east, usually has fairly mild summers.

Sure, it can get hot, but this year it is record hot with temperatures above 40 degrees.

In addition, there is extreme drought.

The fire is raging in an area with mainly conifers, such as yellow pine and one.

- If it becomes a spark, it catches fire very easily and then it spreads very quickly.

You don't even need a lot of wind, because the trees burn like torches and the flames reach the next tree.

Severely affected by fires

Oregon was hit by extensive fires last year as well, especially in September when they pulled through cities and forced half a million to leave their homes.

- Last year was shocking for many in Oregon considering the homes and lives lost.

It has not occurred in modern times.

Fires are nothing new, but people were taken to bed by how quickly and savagely they spread and how devastating it was.

"Maybe the new normal"

So far this year, Oregon has had 68 percent more fires than the average for the previous ten years.

Gersbach tells TT that people in the state have started talking about the effects of climate change not being a problem for the future, but that they are experiencing the consequences here and now.

- We did not get any relief when it comes to the drought, it has rather become more intense.

Now it's a number of years of abnormal weather.

People wonder if this is what every summer will look like?

This may be the new normal.
