Ankara wishes to extradite Gulen and his followers and believes in such a possibility, the ambassador added.

He expressed the hope that this will happen under the current administration.

In November 2018, NBC, citing unnamed senior officials, reported that the American authorities were considering options for the legal expulsion of Fethullah Gulen from the country.

In July 2017, Gülen announced that he had no plans to leave the United States if extradited to Turkey.
