Hariri describes Aoun as a "blocking third" and calls for the establishment of an international tribunal for the Beirut port explosion

Lebanese politician Saad al-Hariri said today, Thursday, that he had abandoned the formation of the government after making sure that President Michel Aoun still wanted the blocking third and that his party would not give the government confidence.

In an interview with Al-Jadeed TV channel, Hariri added, after apologizing for not forming the government: "I wished President Michel Aoun to study the formation in 24 hours, and I did not impose my conditions, and they understood it like this."

He said, "The only solution is for the government to be formed, regardless of the name of its president, on the condition of working to achieve the IMF program and holding elections, and this is what I would have worked on."

He added: "I nominated myself to solve the country's problem according to the French initiative. Today, I apologize for not forming the government of President Michel Aoun. I was following President Nabih Berri's paper, but President Aoun wants everything. I asked President Aoun today about the issue of giving confidence and naming Christians, and he answered me." itself that the National Current bloc might give me a quarter of confidence."

He asked: "By what logic do they ask for the blocking third, as long as they do not name me and do not want to give me confidence?"

He said: "I wanted to apologize for a long time, had it not been for the wish of everyone, especially the French. Today, I discovered during my visit that the same previous conversation was still being discussed and nothing had changed. I told President Aoun that I do not close the door to changing some names, but I I found we were wasting time."

Hariri continued, "When I told President Aoun that I would visit him tomorrow at four, he answered that there was no need for that."

Al-Hariri said, "An international investigation is an international court on the issue of the port, and that is enough time. I tell you in the end, if you want the truth, we should go to an international investigation."

On the other hand, a statement from the Information Office of the Presidency of the Lebanese Republic stated that Hariri's rejection of the principle of agreement with the President of the Republic and the idea of consulting with him to make any change in names and portfolios, indicates that he took a prior decision to apologize, seeking to find reasons to justify his step.

The statement added, "This is despite the president's readiness to facilitate the task of authorship, in his awareness of the accuracy of the stage and his commitment to the need to expedite the formation of a government capable of reform, in addition to his commitment to what the President of the Republic told all regional and international delegates who visited Lebanon in the past days and the correspondences he received from Arab and foreign officials," according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

The statement indicated that "after the president-designate's apology, the President of the Republic will set a date for binding parliamentary consultations as soon as possible."

The statement stated that President Aoun stressed the need to adhere to the agreement reached previously, "however, Prime Minister Hariri rejected any amendment related to any change of ministries, their sectarian distribution and the names associated with them, or taking any opinion of the parliamentary blocs in order for the government to obtain the necessary confidence from the Parliament." He insisted that he choose the names of the ministers.
