Computer journalists on Swedish television have compared all hospitals in the country and calculated how large the care debt is in the number of working days in each place.

Länssjukhuset in Kalmar has a debt of 203 operating days, Oskarshamn Hospital 184, Central Hospital in Växjö 138, Hospital in Ljungby 118 and Västervik Hospital 71 days.

The value for the whole country is 125 days.

Kalmar stands out

In Kalmar and Kronoberg, it is the County Hospital in Kalmar that stands out, which does not surprise the director of health and medical care.

- We have had almost all covid care, especially intensive care, at Länssjukhuset.

This has meant that we have reduced the number of operations very significantly, says Johan Rosenqvist, director of health and medical care in the Kalmar County Region.

Takes several years to catch up

Now that the pandemic is easing, it is important to work off the debt.

- Provided that we do not get another wave of the pandemic, it is important to work as methodically as possible to utilize the resources we have, so that we can help as many as possible, says Johan Rosenqvist.

When can you catch up?

During the pandemic, most operations have had to be canceled.

The County Hospital in Kalmar stands out in the statistics if SVT has compiled.

- Impossible to say at present. But my assessment is that it will take quite a long time - at least one to two years.
