The movement of livestock imports (sheep and cows) during the first half of this year recorded a growth rate of more than 45% compared to last year, rising from 428,880 heads to 621,273 heads.

The last three years have witnessed a growth in the number of markets from which livestock, sheep and camels are imported, reaching 24 countries now.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment confirmed the development of the work system for testing laboratories and quarantine centers in the country’s outlets, by increasing the technical staff, providing it with the latest technologies used globally, and increasing working times, to enhance its ability to receive food consignments coming into the country.

The Ministry’s work team, headed by the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry Sultan Alwan, inspected the Quarantine and Veterinary Examination Center in Hamriyah Port and Al Qusais Butchery in Dubai, to determine the speed of work and the readiness and efficiency of quarantine and examination services.

Alwan said that the ministry is working to enhance the flexibility and continuity of external supply chains through two main axes, the first is related to the expansion of the number of markets approved for import, and the second is to develop the capabilities of testing laboratories and quarantine centers in the country's ports, to increase their absorptive capacity and speed up the pace of their provision of services.

He pointed out the ministry's keenness to periodically intensify the work system of doctors and technicians in its quarantine centers and laboratories at border crossings, coinciding with the periods witnessing an increase in the import movement, which ensures the enhancement of the flexibility of the services provided to accommodate the increasing number of consignments, the speed of examination, and ensuring their safety, and release. about her.

The Ministry has implemented a number of measures as part of its preparations for the Eid al-Adha season, which included reviewing and developing examination procedures in export countries, with the aim of ensuring the export of healthy and disease-free livestock, strengthening examination at entry points, and increasing the number of field visits by officials to entry points to ensure their readiness, and extending Working hours for veterinarians to quickly check incoming consignments.
