Margareta Kitlinski is chief physician at Skåne University Hospital.

She is currently working on a Danish-Swedish research project that will investigate 5,000 childless couples.

- We want to increase awareness, prevent and find new measures.

Also map out the reasons why there is an infertility, says Margareta Kitlinski.

"Skewed view in society"

The study will also look at the consequences that come from people being infertile.

Margareta Kitlinski believes that today, for example in sex education, a lot of knowledge is conveyed about how to avoid getting pregnant.

She sees all the worse that it is with the knowledge of when to have children and best preserve their fertility.

- Patients who come to us are almost shocked that no one has ever told them before.

There is a skewed view in society about when it is time to have children, says Margareta Kitlinski.

"Young mother"

For example, she highlights TV programs where women aged 22-23 get the epithet "young mother", or the attention around the photo model Naomi Campbell when she gave birth to her first child at the age of 50.

- The question is whether it is with own or donated eggs.

Unfortunately, we must be clear that there is at least one fertile window for women, says Margareta Kitlinski.
