The Generalitat intends to decree this Wednesday a new curfew in Catalonia after the explosion of infections by Covid: in the last 24 hours,

8,555 new infections

have been detected

in the community.

The Catalan Government dictated on Monday the cessation of all leisure or restaurant activities starting at half past twelve at night, considering that the imposition of a new curfew had no legal reserve without the state of alarm.

However, after learning that the Justice had endorsed the measure in the Valencian Community, it has decided to imitate it.

The executive led by

Pere Aragonès

trusts that the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia will approve the curfew after the legal services of the Generalitat argued in a report sent yesterday to the Government that the measure could be implemented as long as it affected only the Catalan populations most affected by the virus.

BARCELONA ASKS FROM ONE TO SIX

The Generalitat toughens restrictions after trying to delegate control of public space to city councils during the early mornings.

On Monday, the Government ordered the municipalities to prevent their parks or beaches from hosting nighttime crowds, but consistories such as that of Barcelona recognized their inability to implement the recommendation without further legal powers.

This Wednesday, the deputy mayor of the Catalan capital,

Albert Batlle

, has demanded that the state of alarm extend between one and six in the morning, after holding a meeting with the Generalitat in which he has been confirmed that a curfew will be decreed for at least the next fifteen days.
