• Appointment Postponed the act in which Leonor and Sofía were going to plant six trees to connect with their generation

The Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Leonor have debuted in

their first solo joint act

. The daughters of the Kings have chosen an

environmentalist and pro-European

act

for this first date. They have traveled to Hayedo de Montejo to participate in the #Unarbolporeuropa event organized by Team Europe. At first, the event was scheduled for June 5, but a weather alert for storms forced it to be postponed.

A month later, the Heiress and her sister arrived at this Biosphere Reserve at eleven thirty in the morning accompanied by a group of

35 young people,

27 schoolchildren of eleven nationalities and 8 representatives of Team Europe. Dressed the same, both in white T-shirts, jeans and hiking boots, the sisters have shared a conversation with young people, most of their age.

Julia Fernández

, president of Team Europe, has served as the host of the Heiress and her sister. "We emerged as a result of the 2019 European elections," he explained to EL MUNDO. The environmental initiative came after the president of the European Parliament,

David Sassoli,

wrote a tweet reflecting on the fires that had ravaged Europe that summer. Then, Sassoli invited the municipalities to plant a tree to contribute to reforestation. "We turned

the proposal into an initiative,

" Fernández said.

Leonor and Sofía have known first-hand one of the paths of the Hayedo de Montejo, specifically,

the path of the River

, which runs along the banks of the river Jarama. Accompanied by two of the eight workers of the Natural Park, the Princess and the Infanta have received explanations of this unique forest, in which there are more than

30,000 beech trees

of more than five centimeters in diameter. It is the southernmost beech forest in Europe, the Reserve occupies 250 hectares of which 90 are beech.

Subsequently, the daughters of the Kings have participated in the planting of six trees,

five beech trees and a yew

between 8 and 12 years old that had previously grown in a greenhouse, although they are indigenous. The first to plant her tree, accompanied by the members of her group, was Princess Leonor. A colleague has spread compost, and then the Heiress has knelt to place the tree, which they have added more soil to and finished the planting by watering it. His sister, Infanta Sofía, has followed the same procedure.

A dozen young people from Montejo de la Sierra have approached by bike to the entrance of the beech forest and when the daughters of the Kings

have left they have broken Spain alive

, to which the young women have responded with greetings.

Then, an hour and a half after arriving at the beech forest, they set out for Madrid.

Team Europe is an

apolitical association

- "although Europeanism unites us," says Julia - that wants to visualize among young people that what happens in Europe affects the local.

"In addition, young people are

very aware of the environment

."
