The independent news site Nasja Niva has announced that operations in Belarus will cease due to security risks.

Last week, Belarusian authorities cracked down on several media outlets.

Access to Nasja Niva was restricted following allegations that it had published "illegal content".

In addition, there is now information that the regime is also raiding human rights organizations.

- It is important that the outside world clearly marks that we do not accept that you do this to your population, which is what this is about, says Minister for Development Aid Per Olsson Fridh (MP).

- It is a result of an increasingly desperate regime in Belarus.

In May, the authorities closed the news portal tut.by, which has invested heavily in reporting on the protests in the country after the 2020 presidential election. On July 8, tut.by's former employees started a new media project, zerkalo.io, which publishes news about Belarus, but employees abroad.
