A strong smell of cannabis is dense in the room where the Swedish Customs placed some of the large seizures made so far this year.

On one table are 10,000 tramadol tablets and as many Lyrica tablets.

On a large shelf is 45 kg of cannabis.

- What stands out is that we have a number of larger seizures over 100 kg that make the statistics pull away.

We see a connection to serious organized crime.

If you are transporting hundreds of kilos of hashish or marijuana to Sweden, it is an organization behind it, says Henrik Sjökvist, unit manager at the Swedish Customs Region.

Quadruple compared to last year

The Swedish Customs' statistics on seizures in Skåne, from January to June, show that seizures of cannabis and tramadol have quadrupled in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year.

A total of 418,295 tramadol tablets and over 2,000 kg of cannabis and cannabis resin were seized.

Many of the tablet seizures are made in the mail flow, while the larger amounts of cannabis are mostly found on trucks in the ports of Ystad and Trelleborg and at the Öresund Bridge.

In Helsingborg, the large seizures have decreased, which according to the Swedish Customs is a consequence of the fact that passenger traffic across the strait has decreased during the pandemic.

In the video, you can see a fraction of the customs seizures and hear Henrik Sjökvist about the half-year increase towards 2020.
