Chinanews.com, Guiyang, July 13 (Reporter Lang Lang) "Forestry has a special status in tackling climate change, and forest carbon sinks play an irreplaceable role in the implementation of the'dual carbon' goal." Department of Ecology, National Forestry and Grass Administration First-level inspector Guo Qingjun said in Guiyang on the 12th.

On July 12, the theme forum of "Climate Change, Global Carbon Sink and Ecological Protection" was held in Guiyang. The forum was one of the 22 theme forums of the Guiyang International Forum on Ecological Civilization in 2021.
By 2030, strive to achieve carbon peak; by 2060, strive to achieve carbon neutrality.
How can we help achieve the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality"?
Focusing on the three topics of energy transition and green and low-carbon development, climate change and ecological protection, and climate change and agricultural ecological development, the participating experts discussed strategies to address the challenges of climate change.
"Climate change is currently the most important issue facing humanity, and it is also the most important thing facing society." Liu Congqiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that climate change involves biodiversity, extreme weather, food crises and water crises. It is a key issue affecting human survival.
According to Guo Qingjun, the first-level inspector of the Ecology Department of the National Forestry and Grass Administration, forestry has a special position in tackling climate change, and forest carbon sinks play an irreplaceable role in implementing the "dual carbon" goal.
According to the latest calculations, my country’s forest carbon reserves reach 64.5 billion tons, and the annual carbon sink of forests and grasses exceeds 1.1 billion tons.
Guo Qingjun believes that the implementation of the "dual carbon" goal mainly depends on adjusting the energy structure, optimizing the industrial structure, improving energy efficiency, and innovation in green and low-carbon technologies and institutional mechanisms.
At the same time, it is necessary to actively consolidate and improve the capacity of ecological carbon sinks, by expanding the total amount of forest and grass resources, implementing biomass energy, increasing the increase in carbon sinks of the forest and grass ecosystems, and giving play to the important role of forest and grass carbon sinks.
Yan Denghua, secretary of the Water Resources Research Institute of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, believes that ecological protection under global climate change must conform to the laws of nature, and the problems must be viewed and solved from the perspective of ecology as a whole and system.
"It is impossible for our social economy to fully return to the original nature, but we must have as many natural attributes as possible to standardize the development of human water and soil resources." Yan Denghua said, on this basis, we must achieve mutual interaction between water and ecology. Coordination, to realize that each is in its place and perform its own duties, and truly realize the coordination and maintenance of mountains, water, forests, fields, lakes, and grasses.
In the eyes of Dai Yongjiu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, people are also very important factors in order to achieve ecological protection.
"To govern the lake first govern the river, to govern the river first to govern the mountain, to govern the mountain first to govern the poverty, to govern the poor first to govern the stupidity." Dai Yongjiu said.
He believes that ecological protection not only requires in-depth systematic research in the academic circle, but also needs to train people who are educated, knowledgeable, scientific, and act in accordance with scientific laws, and lay a solid foundation for policy decisions.
