The authorities added that at least 42 people have died in different areas of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state.

  In Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, lightning struck the two watchtowers of the 12th-century Amber Fort, which was crowded with tourists.

  The local police said, “It was already raining when the people were there. As the rain intensified, they were crowded in the tower”.

There were as many as 30 people on the tower when the lightning strike occurred.

  The lightning strike caused 11 deaths, 17 injuries and 3 serious injuries in the area.

  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on the 12th that special payments will be issued to the families of the victims of lightning strikes and expressed condolences.
