Sudan reveals a country that can persuade Ethiopia to "arbitrate the voice of reason" over the Renaissance Dam

Today, Monday, the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maryam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, expressed her belief that Russia can persuade Ethiopia to “arbitrate the voice of reason” regarding the Renaissance Dam crisis, in light of the stalled negotiations to reach an agreement on it.

Al-Mahdi said, in statements to the Russian “Sputnik” agency: “My discussions in Moscow will include the situation in our region and the recent developments regarding the Renaissance Dam issue,” adding, “The discussions will include an explanation and clarification of our positions and our viewpoint on the issue of the Renaissance Dam and Ethiopia’s intransigent behavior towards us, whether it is in the Renaissance Dam.” or within our common borders.

The Sudanese minister, who is currently visiting Moscow, affirmed, "Russia can, with its good relations with Ethiopia, seek to persuade the Ethiopian side to arbitrate the voice of reason and reach an agreement that guarantees the interests of the three countries and does not harm Sudan as it did in the first place."

She added, "Sudan welcomes any endeavors that can support the approach of dialogue and negotiation to persuade Ethiopia to work with the riparian countries in the Nile to reach an agreement that takes into account the interests of all and supports the efforts of the African Union, to which the Security Council referred the file in 2020 with the aim of reaching a binding legal agreement."

She expressed her hope that "the international community will play an active role in this file in support of regional stability and take the matter seriously within the framework of preventive diplomacy," stressing, "As it is known, there is a draft resolution that is still under consideration before the Security Council, and the most important item in it is besides The agreed call from all parties that the African Union, reinforced by international partners, take over the negotiation file between the three countries, leading to a binding and comprehensive legal agreement on the Renaissance Dam in a specific time, is that none of the three parties takes a unilateral action that changes the rest. Therefore, the confirmation that Ethiopia did not undertake a second filling unilateralism that directly harms Sudan becomes urgent and important."

The United Nations Security Council held a session last Thursday to discuss the crisis of the Renaissance Dam between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said after the speech of the Ethiopian Minister of Irrigation that Egypt will defend the rights of its citizens by all available means, stressing that negotiations must take place within a specific time frame. .
