The substantive handling of the criminal case against the suspects of the murder of lawyer Derk Wiersum threatens to be delayed.

On Monday, the defense requested that the trial be adjourned, because, among other things, crown witness Nabil B. has not yet been heard because of the medical problems that B. is struggling with.

According to the lawyers of Giermo B. and Moreno B., who are not related, the key witness would have had an argument with the lawyer the day before the murder of Wiersum in September 2019.

The defense sees a possible motive in this and believes that the case cannot continue until B. has been heard.

"Totally out of the blue", is the response of the Public Prosecution Service (OM) to the alleged involvement of the crown witness.

According to the public prosecutors, there is therefore no need to adjourn the case.

In addition, according to the Public Prosecution Service, the key witness cannot be heard in the foreseeable future due to the aforementioned medical circumstances.

The attack on Peter R. de Vries, advisor to the crown witness, will have a further negative influence on the state of mind of the crown witness.

Justice points out that the lawyer was recently heard who assisted B. together with Wiersum.

According to this person, whose name is not mentioned for security reasons, there was a business difference between Wiersum and B. This difference of opinion would have been resolved the same day.

The defense therefore wants to hear the widow of Wiersum, because according to her there was an argument.

The court will now consider this request as well.

The session is adjourned until 12:00 noon.

Then the judge will decide how to proceed with this case.
