On the night of June 20 to 21, two three-story buildings from the 16th century collapsed rue de la Rousselle, in the old center of Bordeaux, causing three injuries, including one serious.

A judicial investigation was opened last Wednesday against X for "involuntary injuries, with total incapacity of less than three months, by manifestly deliberate violation of a regulatory obligation of safety and prudence" and "endangering the life of others" said the prosecution this Sunday.

The objective is "to be able to clearly determine what are the exact causes of the collapse and if these causes are attributable to the behavior of such a natural or legal person, who could have acted in the wrong direction or not acted".

One of the two buildings, unoccupied, awaiting renovation, had collapsed first, causing the destruction of the second where there were nine people.

Neither of the two buildings was the subject of peril orders according to the town hall.

Emergency security

An expert appointed by the administrative court of Bordeaux after the collapse estimated a week after the disaster that there was a significant risk of collapse of adjoining buildings.

A security perimeter was set up by the town hall, which evacuated 13 buildings in total and their 130 occupants.

On Wednesday, the town hall deplored "the brakes of some (owners) to incur costs, preventing for the moment from starting the work" of emergency security recommended by the expert.
