• Former Minister Ábalos: "I am proud, not of having been part of the Government, but of serving Spain"

  • The crisis Adriana Lastra and Santos Cerdán will pilot the PSOE until the remodeling that Pedro Sánchez will impose in October

  • The crisis The fall of José Luis Ábalos opens the struggle for control of the PSOE

An announcement expected by the PSOE is already official, especially by the leadership of the party after the departure of the Executive of the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda until this Monday in the recent government crisis executed by Pedro Sánchez.

José Luis Ábalos has presented his resignation to the secretary of the Organization of the PSOE, in a letter addressed to both the general secretary of the PSOE and the Federal Executive Commission.

What the majority in the party took for granted is already firm.

In the letter, Ábalos wanted to highlight the loyalty and sense of duty that the former PSOE number 3 exposes for four intense years, has been carrying out within the party.

In the midst of rumors and controversy over his departure from the Government and the PSOE, he has defined his goodbye as a "mature and necessary decision from a personal and family point of view," explain socialist sources.

After his departure, and as had already been organized within the party, Santos Cerdán, until now secretary of Territorial Coordination, will assume the powers of the Organization Secretariat, as well as the preparation work for the Federal Congress.

With only three months remaining for the great socialist appointment, it has been decided not to make a new appointment to fill the void of Ábalos.

Cerdán, in fact, already exerted de facto as number two of Organization and now he will expand his field of action.

The other figure who assumes control of the PSOE is Adriana Lastra.

The deputy secretary general assumes "plenipotentiary" powers and takes the reins of the party.

Lastra, who was already the lieutenant in the party, "assumes the direction of everything in the party until Congress," explain socialist sources.

He will spend more time in Ferraz with that purpose of reactivating the political project.

Ábalos, in his farewell letter, states that he leaves the leadership of a "cohesive" party around the leadership of the Secretary General and President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Likewise, he conveys to his colleagues that the party "is today a stronger party and more aware of its hegemonic role on the left" and much more capable of "mobilizing" society.
