A majority emerged on Monday for the first round of the 2022 presidential election to take place on April 10 and the second on April 24 at a meeting of representatives of political parties around Gerald Darmanin, we learned. with participants.

At the end of this meeting, the Minister of the Interior affirmed that the dates of the 2022 presidential election and those of the legislative elections would be presented to the Council of Ministers "in the coming days".

The choice was limited taking into account the imperatives set by the Constitution.

For the Presidential, there are only two pairs of possible dates: April 10 / April 24 or April 17 / May 1.

Same choice constrained for the legislative ones: June 5 / June 12 or June 12 / June 19.

A majority emerged for a first round of legislative elections on June 12 and a second round on June 19.

Léa Balage (EELV) argued with AFP that "there were only bad choices" for the presidential election: April 10 and April 24 is "not a good solution because of the school holidays", but April 17th and May 1st is not "a good option either".

"We take the least worse," she explained.

Or "April 10 and 24".

On behalf of EELV, she called for the parties to be reconvened after the two abstention assemblies have worked to discuss their findings.

Finally, she added, "the date is not the most important (...) we must ensure that the participation is the highest".
