12 July 2021 Matteo Berrettini, after the great performances on the grass culminating in the Wimbledon final, climbs to eighth place in the ATP ranking, overtaking Roger Federer.

Novak Djokovic, winner of Wimbledon for the third time in a row, remains firmly in the lead while Canadian Denis Shapovalov also makes a leap forward, joining the group of the best 10 players on the planet.

Behind Djokovic remains Medvedev followed by Nadal, then Tsitsipas, Zverev, Thiem and Rublev. Ninth Federer.

The performance on the London grass has greatly increased his chances of qualifying for the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals, scheduled at the Pala Alpitour in Turin from 14 to 21 November. The 25-year-old from Rome moved up four spots to third place in the FedEx ATP Race To Turin. "I'm doing my best to be there" said Berrettini in a video message for the presentation of the Nitto Atp Finals Masterplan. "Good luck to all - adds the tennis player - and we hope to see you in Turin".

Qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in 2019 and reserve last year, Berrettini has 3,505 points in the ranking based on seasonal results, behind only five-time champion Djokovic (7,170) and 2019 winner Stefanos Tsitsipas (4,570). Matteo captured his fifth ATP Tour title at the Cinch Championships in London (on Norrie) last month, before becoming the first Italian in a Grand Slam final since Adriano Panatta at Roland Garros 1976.

Also two semifinalists at the Championships , Pole Hubert Hurkacz (2,190) and Canadian Denis Shapovalov (1,635), made important leaps forward in the FedEx ATP Race To Turin.

Hurkacz, who defeated Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer in the Grand Slam on grass, moved up three places to eighth place, regaining the form that allowed him to hit his first success in an ATP Masters 1000 in April at the Miami Open presented by Itau (in the final on Sinner).

Shapovalov beat Andy Murray on his way to the Wimbledon semifinal and moved up 12 places, thus climbing to 10th place, 150 points behind Russian Aslan Karatsev, ninth (1,785) .Berrettini precedes Russian Andrey Rublev (3,250), fourth, of 255 points. Followed in the Top 8 of the FedEx ATP Race To Turin, the champion of the Nitto ATP Finals 2018 Alexander Zverev (3,195), the reigning champion Medvedev (3,020) and Rafael Nadal (2,940).

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will receive Matteo Berrettini together with the Italian national football team, winner of the European Championship today, at 5.00 pm at the Quirinale. The ceremony will be broadcast in live streaming and on Raiuno.
