In light of the danger that knocked on the doors of the neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah, Al-Tur and Batn Al-Hawa in the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, the residents of Al-Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan, south of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, face the threat of expulsion and displacement from their original neighborhood, and the demolition of their homes in which they spent their years inside, and their dreams and their lives grew between its walls.

This danger of displacement, which disturbs the sleep of the Jerusalemites, comes after the municipality of the occupation in the Holy City announced the implementation of an evacuation plan and the demolition of all 100 houses in the Al-Bustan neighborhood, in the interest of establishing a Jewish settlement neighborhood.

Al-Bustan neighborhood, one of the middle lanes, in the town of Silwan, is adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the southern and southeastern sides. It is about 300 meters away from the southern wall of the Temple Mount. It includes 70 houses, and about 1,550 Jerusalemites live in it, of whom women and children constitute 65% of the total population. Those who live in 110 houses, 10 of which were previously demolished by the occupation.

Lullaby scheme

A member of the Silwan Lands Defense Committee, and a specialist in Jerusalem affairs, Fakhri Abu Diab, said: “Occupation attempts began through his municipality in the city of Jerusalem, to take control of the Al-Bustan Al-Maqdisi neighborhood, where it issued demolition orders, seize lands and confiscate them, and issued a decision to remove or demolish 100 homes. under the pretext of building without a permit.

In an exclusive interview with Emirates Today, Abu Diab refutes the allegations of the occupation, as most of the houses in the central neighborhood adjacent to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque were built before 1967, and some were built before 1948, noting that the occupation prevents Jerusalemites from building in 86% of the area of the town Silwan, which is 6540 dunums.

He added, "The occupation claims that the area is one of the landmarks of the heritage of the Jewish people 3,000 years ago, but in fact it is planning to establish a Talmudic garden over the rubble of houses in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Jerusalem, within the biblical gardens that surround the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Absolute control

A member of the Silwan Lands Defense Committee notes that the demolition of the Al-Bustan neighborhood will lead to the demolition of the rest of the Jerusalem neighborhoods and neighborhoods in the town of Silwan.

Abu Diab said, “The goal of the occupation is to expel people from the neighborhoods in Silwan, who are the first line of defense for the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to change the reality in the Holy City. What the Al-Bustan neighborhood is witnessing is an introduction to the Judaization of the Batn Al-Hawa neighborhood adjacent to Al-Bustan from the eastern side, and Wadi Hilweh neighborhood.” Adjacent to it from the western and northern sides.

He added: “The Al-Bustan neighborhood is currently surrounded by a network of tunnels dug by the occupation to change the reality of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which begins with the demolition of the Al-Bustan neighborhood and the removal of people from the city of Jerusalem, including the Pilgrims Path tunnel, which starts from the beginning of the Al-Bustan neighborhood near Ain Silwan, all the way to the bottom of the Al-Buraq Wall. And next to the Mughrabi Gate, it is one of the most prominent and important gates of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

It shows that among the objectives of the occupation in seizing the homes of the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Jerusalem is to circumvent the settlement belt around the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Two-stage demolition

Al-Bustan neighborhood, before the announcement of this Judaizing settlement scheme, witnessed a decision to self-demolish and evict 17 homes by their original owners. The deadline expired on the 27th of last June, so that the Jerusalemite families who own these homes face the threat of displacement and uprooting from their homes at any moment.

Only two days after the expiry of the deadline set by the occupation, its vehicles demolished one of these facilities, as a butcher's shop and meat sale, owned by the Jerusalemite, Nidal al-Rajabi, turned into a monument after an eye.

During the demolition, the forces severely beat the owner of the facility, detained him and his son "Harbi" during the demolition, and arrested several young men from the Rajabi family.

In the same context, a member of the Silwan Lands Defense Committee says: “The occupation municipality issued orders to demolish 100 homes in the Jerusalem neighborhood in two phases, the first 17 homes, and gave their owners 21 days to implement the self-demolition orders, but the residents refused to do so, prompting the municipality crews To demolish a commercial facility belonging to the Al-Rajbi family in the neighborhood.”

He added: "As for the second phase, the occupation municipality gave the residents until mid-August to obtain the necessary licenses, although the municipality does not grant Jerusalemites any building licenses, and after the expiry of this period, the municipality can carry out the demolition on any day."

• Al-Bustan neighborhood, before the settlement plan was announced, witnessed a decision to demolish and vacate 17 self-propelled homes by their original owners. The deadline expired on the 27th of last June. The Jerusalem families who own these homes face the threat of displacement and uprooting from their homes at any moment.

• The goal of the occupation is to expel people from neighborhoods in Silwan, who are the first line of defense for the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to change the reality in the Holy City, in preparation for the Judaization of the Batn Al-Hawa neighborhood from the eastern side, and Wadi Hilweh neighborhood from the western and northern sides.
