Pedro María Ruiz Jiménez
, the alleged murderer of his
ex-sister-in-law Pilar Berrio
, has been arrested by the Ertzaintza in a hairdresser in the Gross neighborhood of Donostia. The arrest took place after Ruiz Jiménez had seized a
green Seat León of the Basque Police
in a flight that began yesterday in
Murchante at 10.40 am
. The dangerous criminal has managed to evade the
controls of the Navarra and Euskadi police
in the last 36 hours
on a trip from Navarra) to San Sebastián with at least
one stop in Legazpi
, the place where he parked his vehicle.
Members of the Ertzaintza and the Navarra provincial police - who are leading the investigation - were pursuing Ruiz Jiménez as the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing of Pilar Berrio, Murchante's neighbor who was
murdered last Wednesday at 10.40 am
when she was traveling
in her vehicle with her two children ages 9 and 5
. Ruiz Jiménez fled from Murchante to Legazpi, a town where a relative resides. The Ertzaintza deployed as of noon on Wednesday search devices for the criminal whom it considers a
"very dangerous person"
both for his extensive criminal history and for carrying the knife he used in the crime against his former sister-in-law.
Pedro Mari Ruiz Jiménez abandoned his vehicle in Legazpi and it is still unknown
how he managed to get to San Sebastián
. There he spent the night in a
pension
in the
Amara neighborhood
where, according to police sources, he provided a false identity, although the Ertzaintza does not provide official information about his investigations. The alleged murderer went this morning from Amara to the Lugaritz neighborhood in
a taxi
with the aim of
buying a second-hand vehicle
. The driver of the vehicle has informed the police that his client was
"visibly nervous"
during the journey from Amara to this neighborhood located next to several exits to the highways that surround the Gipuzkoan capital.
The criminal would have approached a dealer of the Seat brand where he has stolen a green Seat León that the Ertzaintza uses as a camouflaged vehicle. With this vehicle, Ruiz Jiménez would have left San Sebastián. Since this morning, the Basque Police have increased
police controls at the exits of the Gipuzkoan capital,
examining all vehicles, including buses and trucks.
Pedro María Ruiz Jiménez attacked his former sister-in-law yesterday when she was leaving Murchante with her minor children.
The alleged murderer had
lived with Pilar Berrio for a few weeks
and according to residents of this Navarran town the victim had taken in Ruíz Jiménez
after having served his sentence in the Pamplona prison
.
The offender has family members in various Gipuzkoan towns such as Zumarraga, Legazpi and Urretxu and since he began his flight the provincial and Basque police sensed that he could go to Gipuzkoa to ask for help.
