The water in Lycksele is managed by Lycksele waste and water (LAVAB) who are well aware of their low household tariffs.
- We have a very good raw material.
We do not need to use so many chemicals in our water and it does not have to undergo such a large purification process, says Krister Edskär, VA manager at LAVAB.
Most other municipalities with low water prices are significantly larger in terms of population than Lycksele.
- Then there are more people who share the costs and this is usually talked about as an advantage when it comes to the water tariff, says Krister Edskär.
"Looks brand new"
He also emphasizes the importance of Lycksele's good soil conditions that benefit the life of the water pipes.
- When we dig up pipes that are 50 years old, the pipes can look brand new, says Krister Edskär.
Planned price increase
However, there is a price increase planned.
LAVAB expects to have an annual increase of 6 percent over the next 5-6 years to finance reinvestments.
The average price increase for water in Sweden is around 5 percent annually.
Can this be a way to market to live and work in Lycksele?
- Of course it is a plus but I think people in general do not think so much about what they pay for water, says Krister Edskär.
