The Chargé d'Affairs of the US Ambassador to Yemen, Kathy Westley, sent a letter to what she called the authors of the escalatory discourse in the southern governorates of Yemen.

"Those who undermine Yemen's security, stability and unity risk being subjected to the international response and compounding and prolonging the suffering in Yemen," Westley said in a tweet on the account of the US embassy in Yemen.

She warned against escalatory rhetoric and measures in the southern governorates of Yemen, and said they must stop.

It urged the parties to return to the dialogue that focuses on implementing the Riyadh Agreement and putting the interests of the Yemeni people first.

Earlier, the US embassy in Yemen accused the Houthi group of insisting on escalation and rejecting peace initiatives in the country.

The embassy said in a tweet via its Twitter account that the displaced Yemenis are experiencing great difficulties and dangers, especially as the Houthis insist on escalation and reject peace initiatives.

"While the United States continues to provide relief to the Yemeni people, we reiterate that the Houthis must accept a ceasefire and enter negotiations immediately," she added.
