Politics Ayuso creates the Spanish Office and puts Toni Cantó in charge
The Spanish Office of the Community of Madrid headed by Toni Cantó has no independent structure or budget "for now".
The work of this newly created body by the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso will be to "identify opportunities for development and growth" in sectors that have that language as an "axis".
The explanations were given this Thursday by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports,
Marta Rivera de la Cruz
, in response to a parliamentary question from Más Madrid in the Vallecas Assembly.
The main opposition group has questioned the need for this body and the suitability of the person who will be in charge.
"Mr. Cantó has been contributing to Social Security as a person from the world of culture since he was 19 years old, more than 30 years old (...). I beg you to begin to respect people even if they are political adversaries," the former leader of Ciudadanos in defense of his fellow activist in the
orange
formation
, who will receive
75,084 euros a year
as director of the office.
Rivera de la Cruz has listed among the opportunities for the development of the Castilian language audiovisual production, tourism for professional congresses, the publishing industry, the performing arts and shopping tourism or sports, "in which the language also has a considerable weight ".
"I am going to mention one last aspect of particular relevance: what has come to be called
language tourism
, in particular the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language, a business that only in Spain was growing before the pandemic at a rate of more than 9% and invoices more than 235 million euros per year ", has indicated the Minister of Culture.
According to the data he has provided, in 2019 some
140,000 students
came to the country
to learn the language, of which "only 18,000 were in Madrid": "I think it is important to arbitrate the necessary mechanisms to increase this number for the good of all, not for the Spanish Office, not for Mr. Cantó, not for me. Let's get to work and hope for results. "
Reviews of Más Madrid
The deputy of Más Madrid
Alicia Torija
has accused the Government of Ayuso of "not distinguishing Spanish from Spanish, Castilian from Spanish, Madrid from Spain, what the Constitution says about languages than what the RAE or the Cervantes Institute says ". In addition, he maintains that in Puerta del Sol "they have confused their
life in Madrid
with reinventing the Spain brand."
And he has described the reasons why, in his opinion, this office has been created: "A. Culture for the PP is a mixed bag and also a disaster where there are no plans or resources. B.
Oranges
are already attracted to the President, it seemed the most appropriate thing to bring together the former Citizens in the same council
, regardless of their capacity for the position
. C. They did not think of Spanish as an economic resource, or as a business, nor did they know how to see its educational component. D. All the previous opinions are correct".
"To think that Spanish belongs to Madrid has a name and is appropriation. Practice reading comprehension more and abandon the boastful headlines," added Torija.
"If you want to show us that your proposal for the defense of Spanish is sincere, begin by protecting the legacy of a Nobel Prize in Literature who has taken poetry in Spanish around the world and declare
Vicente Aleixandre's
house of Cultural Interest
," he concluded .
