• Covid Puig advances a "forceful" response to stop the escalation of infections after exceeding 14,000 in a month

  • Valencia The explosive cocktail that has triggered infections in the region with the least incidence of Covid

The speed of coronavirus infections due to the impact of the Delta variant, especially among the youngest, has led the Valencian Government to take a step back in the de-escalation with new restrictions and to advance the vaccination of twenty-somethings, who in the Valencian Community it was more behind with respect to other autonomies. As announced by the President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, this Friday authorization will be requested from the Superior Court of Justice to implement a

"selective curfew"

.

"We want to reach our limit of our powers," said Puig this Thursday after the meeting of the interdepartmental table, because "the pandemic has worsened."

Therefore, the Valencian Government will formally ask to be able to recover the

limitation of night mobility between 1 and 6 in the morning

.

Puig has advanced that, if the Supreme Court accepts the measure, it will affect a total of

40 municipalities

, since the curfew will be applied based on the accumulated incidence and the positivity rate.

In addition, the TSJ will consider the possibility of also limiting social gatherings to 10 people, both in the public and private spheres.

The other measures fully affect the leisure and hospitality sector.

The

closure of nightlife

is decreed

, whose premises may only operate during bars and cafeterias and close at 12 at night.

The hotel industry also advances the closing time.

At midnight it must stop being served, to close the premises at 12.30 pm.

The idea is that this new package of measures comes into effect at midnight from Friday to Saturday.

The objective of the Consell is that the restrictions are in force until July 25.

Since the end of the curfew a month ago, the accumulated incidence in the Valencian Community has multiplied by six, from 40 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 260 today.

On the other hand, the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, announced this Thursday in Parliament that

young people between 20 and 29 years old will begin to be vaccinated during the first week of August

.

This will mean that Valencians

between 30 and 39 years old

will have already received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine throughout this month of July, while this week it will kill all people

between 40 and 49 years old

with the first injected dose. This is the largest age group and the one that particularly concerned the Ministry of Health in the face of social outbreaks and the escalation of infections, which in the last month have exceeded 14,000 and have left the Valencian Community with an accumulated incidence of over 200 (239 according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health).

"Thanks to the priority we set to vaccinate by risk bands, from oldest to youngest age, today we do not have

anyone older than 75 years in ICU

, which is the one with the highest mortality rate. Therefore, I ask young people, how much they have sacrificed to protect their families, that they do not lower their guard, "said Puig.

Currently, the 61.6% of Valencians to be vaccinated (almost 2.8 million people) already have at least one dose, and almost one out of every two Valencians already has the full schedule.

In addition, this week will reach 5 million vaccines administered.

On the other hand, the head of the Consell has announced the hiring of 450

trackers

to strengthen the monitoring of cases and alleviate the workload of primary care teams, which are already reporting saturation.

50 Army trackers will also be incorporated and centralized testing devices will be set up to decongest health centers.
