The first Egyptian comment on the Tunisian draft resolution in the Security Council on the Renaissance Dam

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt will support the Tunisian draft resolution in the Security Council on the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Sameh Shoukry added to the Associated Press, according to the Extra News channel, that Egypt sees the Tunisian draft resolution as balanced.

The United Nations Security Council is holding a session today on the Renaissance Dam, at the request of Egypt and Sudan, based on the Council’s responsibility, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, for maintaining international peace and security.

It is scheduled that Sameh Shoukry will deliver Egypt’s speech before the meeting, and the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Maryam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, will participate in the session, and Tunisia, the only Arab member who holds a non-permanent membership in the Security Council, will present a draft resolution calling on Addis Ababa to stop continuing by One filling reservoir in the Renaissance Dam.

The draft resolution stipulates that the Security Council request “Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan” to resume their negotiations at the request of the African Union President and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, so that the three countries will reach, within 6 months, the text of a binding agreement to fill and manage the dam, while ensuring “Ethiopia’s ability to Production of hydroelectric power from the dam, without causing significant damage to the water security of the downstream countries.
