New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.
- Olympic Games: state of emergency in Tokyo -
The Japanese government has decided to reestablish a state of health emergency in Tokyo for the duration of the Olympic Games (July 23-August 8), foreshadowing the Olympics with few or no spectators.
"In many regions, the number of new cases (of Covid-19) has decreased, but it has continued to increase since the end of last month in the greater Tokyo region," said the Japanese prime minister.

The more infectious Delta variant now accounts for around 30% of cases in Japan.
- More than 100 million tests in France -
Since March 2020, more than 100 million screening tests have been carried out in France, according to public statistics.
Supported 100% by Health Insurance, the tests cost 2.2 billion euros in 2020 and Social Security expects to spend an additional 4.9 billion this year.
The Academy of Medicine suggests waiving tests "for personal convenience", that is to say without medical reason.
A track studied by the government, "probably in September".

- Euro: a Delta variant focus in France -
An outbreak of nine positive cases for the Delta variant was detected in the Vosges (eastern France) among supporters returning from Hungary where they had attended a Portugal match at the Euro football.
- Paris advises against Spain and Portugal -
Faced with the rapid spread of the Delta variant, the French Secretary of State for European Affairs advises the French to "avoid Spain and Portugal" this summer.
"Those who have not yet booked their holidays, avoid Spain, Portugal in your destinations, it is a word of caution," said Clément Beaune.

"It is a recommendation on which I insist, it is better to stay in France or go to other countries (...), we have a situation which is particularly worrying".
- Final of the Euro: concerns of officials -
Many European officials are expressing their concern about the final of the Euro football which will take place in London on Sunday between the English and the Italians.
It will likely be "the largest crowd gathered for a sporting event in over 15 months in the UK", according to the UK government as the number of Covid-19 cases due to the Delta variant soars and has reached nearly than 30,000 cases per day this week.
The gauge, increased during the semi-finals and the final, has already reached 64,950 spectators on Wednesday, according to the UEFA organizer.
- More than four million dead -
The pandemic has killed at least 4,004,966 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to a report established Thursday by AFP from official sources.
The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 606,218 deaths for 33,770,459 cases, according to the Johns Hopkins University count.

After the United States, the most affected countries are Brazil with 528,540 deaths and 18,909,037 cases, India with 405,028 deaths (30,709,557 cases), Mexico with 234,192 deaths (2,558,369 cases), and the Peru with 193,743 deaths (2,071,637 cases).
