In the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, the wind waves hundreds of tents and wiphala, these multicolored flags emblems of the Andean peoples.
Analia Iraola is one of the thousands of people who have come to demand the release of the
indigenous social leader Milagro Sala
: “
Milagro is a political prisoner of the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales.
She gave dignity to her people, she built
8,000 homes, schools, cooperatives, and the neoliberal right has never forgiven her.
"
Prosecuted in numerous cases, Milagro Sala was sentenced in 2019 to 13 years in prison for extortion and fraud in the public administration as the leader of the powerful social organization Tupac Amaru.
No intervention by Alberto Fernandez
For Nélida Rojas, referent of this organization, Milagro Sala pays for showing the shortcomings of local political power in Jujuy: “
Milagro has raised awareness.
Beyond the thousands of homes, it has strengthened the rights of companions.
This is why she is being held
”
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez considers as Amnesty International that Milagro Sala is being arbitrarily detained.
However, he refuses to speak of a "
political prisoner
" or to intervene in the judicial process in the province of Jujuy.
