07 July 2021 Archers in medieval dress with the bow raised in homage to the passion of Chiara Gualzetti, who loved re-enactments, welcomed her coffin, in front of a crowded church for the funeral of the girl killed in Monteveglio, by a contemporary who confessed to the crime.

The small town in the Bolognese municipality of Valsamoggia met for the last farewell to the very young, many people with a white flower or a sunflower. The white coffin arrived in silence, followed by father Vincenzo and mother Giusi in tears, up to the carpet of flowers, under the altar. Hundreds remained outside and attended the ceremony broadcast by the loudspeaker.

"Chiara was torn from our community", said the parish priest, Fr Ubaldo Beghelli at the opening. Then he read a message from Cardinal Matteo Zuppi: "Papa Vincenzo - these are the words of the archbishop - said that Chiara died full of love, trusting her, because she gave love and affection to everyone and she did it until the end. She will not stop. The light of God turns on Clare's very bright star and we will contemplate it in the sky so that we too can go out 'to see the stars again' after this terrible night ". "I would like, if possible, to meet you in some time - he added, turning to the parents - when perhaps we will measure the absence with more suffering, to be able to reflect together, pray, embrace each other and choose to oppose all violence with love".

"I pray for the boy who committed this crime. May the Lord make himself felt within him", the parish priest said in his homily, in a reference to the sixteen year old who on Sunday 27 June made an appointment with the girl in front of the house and then he murdered her, he said, in the park of the Abbey. The body was found in a forest the next day by volunteers engaged in research initiated by their parents. "We hear the poor voice of a mother and father who wait in vain, screaming Chiara's name, looking for her, echoing inside our hearts", Zuppi recalled in the message.

The funeral was attended by the mayor of Monteveglio, Daniele Ruscigno, the family's lawyer, Giovanni Annunziata, the head of the school Chiara attended, who read a text with her voice broken by tears. And then friends, classmates, ordinary citizens, but also representatives of the Udi (Union of Italian women) always alongside the victims of femicides, as Chiara's was defined by her father, yesterday in front of her daughter's funeral home. Eventually the coffin, transported to the Abbey cemetery for burial, was greeted by applause. White and pink balloons were flown skyward. Fifteen, like Chiara's years, who would have turned 16 at the end of the month.
