06 July 2021 In Kamchatka, in the Russian Far East, the contacts of an An-26 plane were lost, carrying - according to preliminary data - 22 passengers, including a child, and six crew members.

This was reported by the Russian agency Ria Novosti, citing the regional office of the Ministry of Emergencies, according to which the aircraft was carrying out the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky-Palana route.

Although the hypothesis of an accident has not yet been officially confirmed, search and rescue operations have already started.

According to the Interfax agency, the An-26 may have crashed near a coal mine in Kamchatka.

The last serious plane crash in Russia dates back to May 2019, when a Sukhoi Superjet of the national company Aeroflot was forced to an emergency landing and caught fire on the runway of a Moscow airport, killing 41 people. In February 2018, a Saratov Airlines AN-148 crashed shortly after takeoff near Moscow due to human error, killing all 71 people on board.
