- We will solve all urgent needs that arise, no one needs to worry.

But in the next few weeks, we must prioritize our places for those who have the greatest need, says social manager Fredrik Sjömark.

- A group we prioritize are those who have been treated and are going home from the hospital, says care manager Lena Enkvist.

Appeals to relatives

Social director Fredrik Sjömark is now appealing to both relatives and the Norrbotten Region for cooperation to meet the challenge and indulgence for possible consequences.

The social services in Piteå are in the most critical weeks of the summer and the strained staffing situation means that there are small margins in the event of, for example, short-term absence.

Need for emergency places

At the same time, the municipality has received many applications for emergency room special care for the elderly.

To cope with the next summer weeks

The managers at the social services in Piteå hope that the most demanding patients will have the opportunity to stay in hospital for a few extra days for recovery and rehabilitation.

- Due to the pandemic, there is a record low level of the number of care places and people who might have been cared for in hospital remain at home or need support through housing in municipal care and care, says Fredrik Sjömark.
