(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Canada implements first-phase measures to relax entry restrictions

China News Service, Toronto, July 6 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) Canada has implemented its first-stage measures to relax entry restrictions on July 5. Inbound passengers who have been fully vaccinated against the new crown will be exempted from isolation and virus testing on the eighth day of entry. .

The condition for passengers to obtain the above exemption is that they must be fully vaccinated and approved by the official new crown vaccine 14 days before entry, including vaccines developed by Pfizer, Modena, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Eligible air travellers do not need to go to officially designated hotels to undergo compulsory quarantine.

However, entrants must still comply with other epidemic prevention requirements such as receiving virus testing before departure and upon entry, submitting vaccination certificates in advance, and providing appropriate isolation plans.

At present, most of the tourists who can enter Canada are citizens, permanent residents or their immediate family members of that country.

The remaining foreigners who can enter the country mainly include work visa holders and international students.

For travelers who have not yet been fully vaccinated, there is no change to Canada’s current entry restrictions, which means they must undergo mandatory quarantine.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said in response to the media on the 5th that the authorities are expected to announce further measures for unblocking and opening up in the next few weeks.

He also said that with the gradual relaxation of entry restrictions, the number of people traveling is expected to increase.

At present, the border between Canada and the United States is still subject to limited "customs closure", and "non-essential cross-border travel" for tourism and leisure purposes is prohibited.

The restriction is tentatively scheduled to be implemented until July 21.

When the customs clearance order between Canada and the United States will be lifted is regarded by Canadian public opinion as an important indicator of the restart.

As of the evening of July 5, Canada had reported a total of nearly 1.418 million cases, with 381 new cases in a single day; about 1.385 million recovered cases, 26,368 deaths, and 5,812 active cases.

The country’s 7-day average daily increase in cases has fallen to its lowest level in about 10 months.

With the improvement of epidemic control, some provinces have begun to gradually lift various epidemic prevention and restrictive measures to promote economic restart.

Canada has completed 39.676 million doses of vaccination. About 68% of the total population has received at least one dose, and about 36% have been fully vaccinated.

Trudeau has received the second dose of vaccine on July 2. Unlike the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine, his second dose of choice is the Modena vaccine. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization of Canada recommended in early June that people who received the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine can choose mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccines such as Pfizer or Modena for their second dose.
