07 July 2021 London is increasingly the seat of Italian dreams. In addition to the splendor of the Azzurri of football at Wembley, the star of Matteo Berrettini shines on the green lawns of Wimbledon. The 25-year-old Roman, number 9 in the world and seventh force on the draw, has won the pass for the semifinals of the third round of the Grand Slam, taking place on the grass fields of the All England Club in the English capital.

The blue defeated today the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, number 16 of the seeding, with the score of 6-3 5-7 7-5 6-3. Berrettini is the second Italian in the history of the British Major to reach the semifinals.

Only Nicola Pietrangeli (in 1960) before him had gone so far in London. For the Roman it is also the second semifinal of his career in a Major, after the one he lost at the US Open in 2019 (against Rafael Nadal). He will face the amazing Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole "dethroned" King Roger Federer today, winning 6-3 7-6 (4) 6-0. The blue and Hurkacz faced each other on one occasion and the Pole prevailed.

Previously, Novak Djokovic beat Hungary's Márton Fucsovics in three sets, with a score of 6-3 6-4 6-4, qualifying for the tenth time to the semifinals.

Djokovic thus keeps alive the hopes of completing the Grand Slam, after winning both the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2021, and the engagement with Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer for the number of Slam titles won, twenty of which five at Wimbledon.

The Serbian champion, world number one and defending champion, will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov (10) who overcame Russian Karen Khachanov (25) 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-1 6 in a marathon of five sets -4.

Tomorrow the semifinals of the women's draw: the Australian Ashleigh Barty, number 1 WTA and seeding, will challenge the German Angelique Kerber, while the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, second favorite, will face the Czech Karolína Plíšková.
